I will compose a score, conduct and perform live for a physical theater creation BABYLON, about the trial of a woman in time of war. Born in Malaysia and raised in Japan, Masatora studied sociology. He eventually turned to performing arts and relocated to the US to pursue his creative calling. Trained as a vocal performer first, Masatora explores the musical drama. Noted as a “composer of cultural crossroads” by American Composers Forum, his unique eclecticism has attracted many musicians performing in nontraditional chamber ensembles and earned him American Prize, JFund for New Music Award, the Nam June Pike and Shigeko Kubota Video Art Prize, and many grants such as NYSCA and QCA. His music has been performed in the US, Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil, Germany, Australia, Nepal, Thailand, and Japan. His creative approach toward music and sound has made him a frequent collaborator with visual artists, filmmakers, and theater artists, such as Guggenheim Museum, award-winning films in Barcelona International Film Festival and DTLA Film Festival, and the theaters in the Berkshire, Cambridge, and NYC. Masatora served as assistant director of Vox Novus Composer’s Voice, and he is currently a member of Random Access Music and a resident composer of Kadoma Film Commission in Osaka, Japan. www.project-tag.com
